ALOR SETAR – Bina Darulaman Berhad (BDB) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Shanghai Youzhu Industry Co. Ltd., (Shanghai Youzhu), a collaboration that signifies a major stride in the pursuit of environmental sustainability through an innovative industrial waste management project.
Raja Shahreen Raja Othman, the Executive Director of BDB, emphasized that this collaboration is strategically aligned with the Kedah Development Plan 2035 (PPK 2035) under the Environment Theme, Thrust 6 – Environmental Sustainability, and is an integral component to BDB’s New Strategic Business Plan.
He added, the proposed project mirrors regional aspirations outlined in the PPK 2035 while aligning seamlessly with national and global initiatives, including the National Cleanliness Policy, National Climate Change Policy, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
“This international partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both entities to establish comprehensive industrial waste management solutions, minimizing environmental impacts, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. By integrating environmental considerations into operations, the collaboration seeks to significantly contribute to the overall well-being of the community, related stakeholders, and the planet.
“In line with this objective, BDB and Shanghai Youzhu are also discussing the potential establishment of a joint venture company related to Industrial Waste Management Development,” stated Raja Shahreen after the MOU signing ceremony held at Raia Hotel, Alor Setar, Kedah.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Menteri Besar of Kedah, YAB. Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Also, present at the event were State Industry and Investment, Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation Committee Chairman, Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, BDB Chairman, Sr Haji Che Had Dhali, BDB Chief Operating Officer, Mohd Sobri Hussein, President Shanghai Youzhu Industry Co. Ltd., Yu Qiang, President of XREP, Strategic Partner of Youzhu/Jiahui, Shi Yihang and Community Senior Procument Director, Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik Aktiengesellschaft (AT&S) Malaysia, Xie Zun Xian.
Raja Shahreen explained that BDB chose to collaborate with Shanghai Youzhu based on their 27 years of expertise and experience in managing the entire chemical supply chain process and more than 10 years of experience in the recovery and utilization of solid waste – including hazardous and scheduled waste, recycling, and waste management.
He said that Shanghai Youzhu is currently providing waste management services to AT&S in Kulim, Kedah and Chongqing, China. AT&S is an Austrian-based global high-tech leader in printed circuit boards (PCB) and integrated circuit (IC) substrates with production facilities in Austria, China, India and Korea and sales offices around the globe.
“Besides that, Shanghai Youzhu has also invested in Malaysia by establishing Jiahui Industrial (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., which is directly involved in the industrial waste management.
This collaboration stands as a testament to our shared vision of a cleaner, greener future. BDB and Shanghai Youzhu Industry eagerly anticipate pioneering innovative solutions that will contribute significantly to the realization of a sustainable and eco-friendly community,” he explained.
