“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” This quote by Winston Churchill holds true when it comes to the idea of charity. Malaysians are known for their selflessness and charitable efforts, and it isn’t a surprise when many parties jumped to the opportunity as soon as THE CEO Malaysia announced the proposition of a charity drive at the fishermen’s village in Penang.
We are very fortunate to have VH Group onboard for the recent CSR project at Teluk Bahang, Penang. As one of the leading integrated logistics service providers in the country, VH Group is committed in giving back to the society. As how the company’s founder and Managing Director, Simon Wong puts it, “Community development and social responsibility should go hand in hand with business growth and success.”
It was a weekend of giving for THE CEO Malaysia and the team from VH Group, as we visited homes of the underprivileged children and families living with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Staffs from both teams were lucky enough to get help from a local charity association, Pertubuhan Kasih Amal who kindly brought us around identifying those who were in dire need of assistance where food aids and care packages from VH Group were evenly distributed. We also spent some time at PPDK Teluk Bahang, a centre for disabled children, listening to the concerns of the parents and carers. Volunteers from Family of Charity NGO were also present and the extra help really smoothen the program which ended around late noon.
Under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community, the participation of National Population and Family Development Board Malaysia (or better known as an acronym LPPKN) was substantially helpful as a team of medical officers were stationed at a particular location, giving the disadvantaged community a free health screening and consultation.
To be part of this charity drive was indeed a humbling experience for everyone involved. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to VH Group whom generosity brought much needed joy to the community of Teluk Bahang.
