DATIN ZALANI HASSAN OR FONDLY KNOWN AS DATIN NORNIE IS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIGHT UP A ROOM WITH HER POSITIVE ENERGY, WHEREVER SHE GOES. SOFT SPOKEN AND EVER-CHEERFUL, NEVER MISTAKES HER GENTLENESS FOR WEAKNESS AS DATIN NORNIE HOLDS A VERY POWERFUL ROLE AS A DECISION MAKER IN THE BUSINESS FINANCING INDUSTRY.
When it comes to our country’s main cooperative society establishment, Datin Nornie is the key person as she holds the position of Chairwoman of Koperasi Usahawan Maju Berhad (KUMB) since its inception in April 2020. Datin Nonie have since helped many small and medium businesses thrive, providing solutions in generating sufficient incomes, concurrently surviving the competitive open market. She oversees the whole operation and activities by KUMB, granting credit assistance for businesses to benefit the co-op members. “It is our pledge to enhance the quality of life of our co-cop members by providing them with options for financial stability. Especially those in the B40 group, we wish to help as many as possible by providing a safe platform where they can turn their dreams into reality. With determination and some assistance, nothing is out of reach.”
KUMB is a government agency that grants loans for businesses ran by those employed by the government, statutory bodies or government-linked companies (GLC). As the Chairwoman, Datin Nornie works closely with the institution’s board members for approval processes. Furthermore, KUMB is also licensed to cooperate with Ar Rahnu. Passionate and dedicated, Datin Nornie says she has big plans coming. “Before 2023, we are drawing out a plan to release a total of RM100 million worth of credit assistance whilst adding on another five more outlets of Ar Rahnu in Lembang Klang and Kelantan.”
Before KUMB, Datin Nornie was already a well-known successful businesswoman. Her cosmetic line, Mac Glow by Comeylotte is widely distributed in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs running construction projects, she’s also involved in the restaurant business. It seems that entrepreneurship is in her blood, Datin Nornie’s position in KUMB is sure the perfect role as she’d be assisting new businesses through her personal experience as a seasoned entrepreneur.
The recognition that she received during the Women of Excellence Awards night was certainly one of her proudest moments. Beaming with gratitude, the award gave her more reason to strive harder in helping co-op members build a better future. “As a female leading the nation’s co-op, the award is also a symbol of appreciation for women all over the country. I hope there will be many more female entrepreneurs succeeding in the big league because their contributions are very critical for our economic growth.
