Che’ Puan Besar Khaleeda Bustamam, the wife of Tunku Mahkota Johor, was appointed as the new Pro Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) effective till 11 July 2024.

A proclamation ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 23 in conjunction with the 64th UTM Convocation Ceremony.

“UTM congratulates and pays tribute on the consent of Che’ Puan Besar to accept the appointment as Pro-Chancellor of UTM.

“With this appointment, UTM is confident that he will be able to contribute in the effort towards realizing UTM’s mission to be a leader in the development of human capital and innovative technology for the enrichment of national treasures as well as continue to serve the community in line with the ‘UTM Mensejahterakan Kehidupan’ initiative,” it said in a statement.

Che’ Puan Besar Khaleeda was born on 16 July 1993 at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She attended Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Taman Seri Gombak in Selangor from 2001 until 2003, where she participated in dance and track & field before moving to England with her mother.

While in England she attended St. George’s School at Hanover Square before enrolling at Westminster Academy in London in 2004. In 2009, she returned to Malaysia and studied at the Sri Utama School in Kuala Lumpur and graduated in 2010.

Che’ Puan Besar Khaleeda married Tunku Ismail Idris, the Crown Prince of Johor, on 24 October 2014 in a private ceremony at Istana Bukit Serene. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters, Tunku Khalsom Aminah Sofiah (25 June 2016), Tunku Iskandar Abdul Jalil Abu Bakar Ibrahim (14 October 2017), Tunku Abu Bakar Ibrahim (17 July 2019), and Tunku Zahrah Zarith Aziyah (21 April 2021).

Che’ Puan Besar Khaleeda was awarded Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Crown of Johor (SPMJ) on 15 March 2015 and the Grand Commander of the Royal Family Order of Johor (DK I) on 23 March 2019 by Sultan Ibrahim Ismail of Johor.
